Aubade

My subject is a rufous-sided towhee, a bird with a melodic three-note song. I imagined the bird facing east and greeting the dawn, and therefore called the piece “Aubade,” a song appropriate to the early morning. The medium is soft pastel (Terry Ludwig, Unison, and NuPastel) with a very small amount of Carbothello pastel pencils used for the bird’s eye, beak, and feet, on PastelMat toned paper.
