A Rustic Whisper
In this painting, I’ve captured a quiet yet vibrant moment from a village fair — three women from the shepherd community, immersed in conversation as they shop from local vendors. Their expressive faces, traditional Maharashtrian attire, and graceful postures speak volumes about the strength and beauty of rural Indian life.
The medium I have used for creating this piece is a combination of Mungyo Soft Pastels and Unison Soft Pastels on Canson Mi-Teintes paper.
What drew me in was the richness of their costumes, their hard-working expressions, and the subtle, unspoken bond between them. I painted this using a dark-to-light technique, allowing the tones of the paper to breathe through and create harmony. The empty space around them isn’t just background — it invites the viewer into their world.
A tribute to culture, connection, and timeless storytelling.
