Portrait of Ava
I created this portrait of my niece, Ava, from a photograph I took of her on my iPhone while we were shopping. I've done portraits in watercolor, graphite and charcoal before, but this is my first one with pastels. I fell in love with it! I found that I could be more loose and free with pastels than I could with the other mediums. In the past I had tried pastels but they were the cheaper and harder, so the dust bothered my lungs and I gave it up. Then I discovered soft pastels from Dakota Pastels and used better pastel paper and found I didn't have that issue any longer! I'm loving them!
