Escalante Trail
This painting depicts the bright sunshine and cool air of an early October day along the banks of the Escalante River in southern Utah. The cottonwoods were just beginning to turn golden yellow against the backdrop of a clear blue sky and red canyon cliffs. The shade and shelter of the riverbank is a welcome contrast to the exposure of the desert beyond. The soft Blue Earth pastels combined with the Pastelgrain paper added a wonderful textural effect to the piece.
