Seeds in the Dark
This was made on Arches watercolor paper with pastel ground ! It is a self portrait which speaks to the darkness we are surrounded in as we are waking up spiritually. That the airs of death and endings lilt on the blooms of every flower. The flowers behind the figures face to the right form half of an abstract skull. Hints to the third eye opening come from the figure extending its arm through her brow with a flower blooming in her forehead. This piece marks my discovery of how the numbers after the pigment (like Indigo II) yield a different expression of the hue. I learn so much every time I sit to paint and have fallen in love with the medium. I used rubbing alcohol and a brush to turn the pastels into a liquid before adding the pastel ground and the image sprung from the chaos of the first layers. This has definitely become part of my process with them !
